Tenders for carting stone for work on the Hangaroa road closed to-day at the Cook Countv offices. The work involved two separate contracts, one for carting on the Hangaroa end and the oilier foe carting at Wacrcnga-o kuri. In both eases the tenders exceeded the engineer's estimates, and no tender was accepted.

For some time the Dargavillc farmers and business men have been organising for the establishment of a. demonstration farm on the lines of the model demonstration 'farm at .Stratford, Tiarana'ki. This farm is run by a. body of farmers acting in co-operation with the Department of Agriculture. The department grants an annual subsidy of £!3CO a, year towards the expenses incurred in experimental work and other useful projects. The results attained can be seen by the i'arniers ol the district, and can be applied by them, as the experimental results are local. Tho farms provide a meeting place for fanners, where local problems can be regularly discussed on what, are termed "Farmers' Field Days." Mr J. H. Patterson, instructor in agriculture, has received official notice that the request of the Northern Wairca, Demonstration Farm Society has been given the approval of Cabinet.
