WAIROA NEWS.

lIARBOR BOARD'S DECISIONS,

(Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day,

At the Harbor Board meeting yesterday two important reports were unanimously adopted. One comprised tlio terms on which the Board agreed to work the new wharf at Waikokopu on behalf of the Public Works Department, and the other fixing the' port charges on lighters', coasting craft and overseas shipping Waikokopu. These, with the Government charges for use of wharf and landing facilities, if approved, will be immediately gazetted. To facilitate despatch the board chairman was authorised to proceed to Wellington with Mr. Thompson, resident engineer, Napier, to get matters put in motion. It was stated that commencing early in January 60,000 sheep are to be shipped for Canterbury, necessitating the visits of 40 or 50 boats. There are also enquiries from up the East Coast that bring the total to 100,000. There is also a good prospect of a substantial cattle export from Waikokopu, and arrangements are going forward for providing a holding paddock and yards for sheep.
