WHALER ESTABLISHES RECORD

Thei Norwegian ship Sir James Clark Ross, fifteen degrees from the South Pole, has reported by radio and cable that signals from KFS Federal telegraph station here were, strongly heard. This is one of the world’s greatest, long distance radio records. It is stated an effort will be made to establish direct two-way communication with the ship.

Experimental wireless working at Milnerton reveals greater success a.s the wave length shortens. Tests were started on 92 metres and the experimenters are now working on 60, and probably lower waves will be tried. At one period, using the amplifier, operators standing outside the hut, with the door closed, could read signals emanating firm hand phones. The operators were satisfied that the signal length was of sufficient intensity to admit an tom itic 'working at high-speed. The Cape Times has received its first press message direct from England by wireless from Marconi, who, replying to congratulations ori iho success cf the experiments, stated that .xporiimmtnl transmission to all other parts of ihe Empire had been equally ,-ueeessful.
