UNPRECEDENTED INTEREST.

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association./ BERLIN, Dee. 5.

There was unprecedented interest at Hanover in the trial of Haraman, a butcher, on a charge of murdering 27 youths in 1918. The man had been in gaol for fiftean out of forty-five years. He had secured long immunity from arrest because he acted as a spy for the Hanover police. The victims were aged 13 to 22. He waylaid them nt a .railway station and decoyed them to his miserable garret, overlooking the River Lcinne, where he strangled bis victims during the night. One. hundred and ninety witnesses are attending the trial. They were searched for arms before they were admitted, as the authorities were, told that some of the relatives intended to avenge themselves on Hart-man. v -, ,'■" .',%. V
