FIRE AT HANGAROA.
MR. JOHN HARRIS' HOMESTEAD
DESTROYED
Cheviot HilJs, the homestead of Mr. John Harris, of Hangaroa, was completely destroyed' by five about 1.30 thin morning. The inmates of the house, who comprised Mr. thd Mrs. Harris, together with a married couple, were awakened by the noise of the fire, which had obtained a. hip; hold. The ocenpants escaped just, in time, practically in their night attire. The house was. a large one, of nine or len rooms, occupying an elevated position. It was completely destroyed, Mr. and Mrs. Harris being unfortunate in losing many valuable things. Tt is thought the fire originated in a cupboard adjoining the hob water cistern. The premises wore insured with the Union Insurance Co.,
