FREEZING WORKERS.
DOMINION AWARD,
The Arbitration Court has given its award in the freezing works and related trades’ employees’ case. The hours of work arei fixed at 44. Whe/re, owing to the exigencies of the train service, slaughtermen are required to commence work before 8 a.m., overtime is mil to he payable after 7.50 a.m. For freezing chamber.hands the hours of work are to lie eight hours in any twenty-four, reckoning from midnight to midnight, but fid per hour extra is to he paid for work between II p.m. and fi.3o a.m.', arid overtime rates will continue after eight hours’ work until \iho worker has a break of one (lour for each, two hours’ continuous time worked. In tlie manure, tallow, oleo, fellmongery, preserving, and engineering departments shifts may he worked. ~ The rates of pay are as follows; Slaughtering: Sheep, £1 18s fid per 100; lambs, £1 16s; show sheep and lambs, £2 4s fid; unshorn sheep, after November 30, and 1 rams and genuine stags other than ram lahibs, double rates; dead sheep or lambs, Is 3d each; back-set lambs, 7d each ; cattle, 2s 6d per head; bulls and genuine stags, ss; dead cattle, 3s 4d; caives 'up tc 1301 b, Is 3d, up to 2001 b Is lOd, over 20011), cattle rates; pigs up to 1201 bls 3d, 120‘lb and over Is lOd.
(Slaughterhouses and cooling room (assistants : Boners, after 2 years, 2s 3Td per hour; first year, 2s; second year, 2s 1-Jd ; ’Doormen oil piecework, £1 8s per 1000; per hour, 2s; gutmen on piecework, 4s 3d per 100; on beef, £1 0s 4d per 100; per hour, 2s; coining floor hands, trimmers, general laborers, 2s; runner-off, 2s Id; stripper, 2s Id; meat grader, 2s sp( per hour; shop butcher, Fellmongery: Fullers, North Island, /s 8d per 100; Marlborough and Canterbury, 8d peii' dozen, November to Marcli, and 9J-d, April to October; Otago and (Southland, from commencement of season to end of season, 9jd; skin washers, etc., woolly skins, 2s'o£d per hour: painters, etc., North Island, November to March, 4s peir 1000; April to end of season, 4s 3d; South Island, Marlborough and Canterbury, 4s 4d; Otago and Southland, 3s BJ,-d. Piece or pie men, November to March, Is per lOib after March, Is 6£d; wool driers and pressers, 2s per hour; pressers Is 4J,d per bale.
Pelt department: Liners, 2s o|d per hour; fleshers, 2s; after three months’ experience, 2s o£d; piecework on sheep, Is 6d per 100; on lambs, Is 3d; scudclers, 2s per hour, or 2s o£d per 100, or Is lid by machine; pelt classers and curers, 2s 3(d per hour; other workers, 2s.
Freezing chamber hands, 2s 2£d per hour.
Preserving: Boners, 2s per hour; second preservers and tinsmiths, 2s lid per hour; other workers 2s,
Casing: From 2s sgd to 2s Id per hour; strippers, £1 7s 9d per 1000; short bung hands, £1 ss; iong bung " hands, £1 10s 6d.
Manure and tallow and 0100 department , 2s per hour; hide house, loading hand, 2s o^d; others 2s.
Engine room, 16s per watch of eight Casual watchmen, 2s;>chambers, 2s. Youths, under 16 years, £l 10s per week; under 17, £1 15s; under 18, £2 ss; under' 19, £2 15s; thereafter, the minimum wane.
Overtime, time and a quarter for first two hours, and time and a, half tlierealter. Double rales and a rate and a, half for holidays. Waiting time for s'a.nghlermei!, 3s per hour; pullers, 2s per hour.
Blliqr clauses deal with learners, alterations jn dressing, .slaughtermen's work, preference, exclusion of foreman, special conditions for pullers, general conditions, special provisions for casings department, and management disputes.
