ROSE SHOW.
OPENED TO THE PUBLIC. The Poverty Bay Horticultural Society’s Rose Show was opened to the public at 2 o’clock, and from that- time forward the attendance, grew steadily larger. Musical items were -given during the afternoon by Heeney, while afternoon tea was served upstairs. The entries were so large that the room adjoining the hall had to be requisitioned for staging some of the exhibits. Mr. A. Baynes, judge of the decorative classes, said that on the whole the exhibits were fair, but the flowers lacked beauty. The decorated tables were well got up and artistically arranged. Some of the flowers in the bowl of roses; classes were very beautiful. Mr. Sumpter, who judged the-veget-tables, said tfiaf on the whole the exhibition was a very good one. Tho lemons were of -ea-ceMent quality and were verv hard to judge. The root vegetables were very poor, but the lettuces, peas, beans and cauliflowers had all been of" excellent quality.
