HOTEL WORKERS’ HOURS.
DEPUTATION TO' MINISTER. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Various matters affecting hotel workers were placed before the Minister of Labor to-day by a deputation from the Hotel Workers’ Federation. They asked for an. amendment of the Shop® and Offices Act to bring it into line with tl*e other awards. Girls in restaurants nominally worked eight hour®, hut the period could be spread over fourteen hours. They would like this spread reduced. They thought 8 o’clock lute enough' to- work. The Hon. G. J. Anderson said he intended to go into l various matters in, regard to the I.C.A. Act during the recess, with a vieiw to new legislation nextsession. The! question of hours of female workers in, restaurants was investigated by the Labor Bills Committee, when it was pointed out that it was almost- impossible to manage restaurants unless the hours were spread -over a fairly lengthy period. - However, lie would look into the request.
