A lire at 11.30 last- night totally destroyed a. five-roomed- house occupied by .1. Ringrose. and owned by J. Poweli, jail., who also owned the furniture. The house was insured for £750 and the. furniture for £l2O, in (ho Australian Alliance office.

DUNEDIN, this day. The inquest concerning the death of a male infant,found in a drawer in a house/, maid’s room at 1 hi* Grand hotel was con/cluded this morning. As a result of the. evidence givnp a warrant, was issued for the arrest- of the mother, Marguerita Elizabeth Hand, on a charge, of murder. Medical evidence showed that the infant’s neck was encircled by a piece of clothing, tightly constricting it. The coroner’s finding was that deatli resulted from asphyxia, caused 1 by strangulation.
