STRAIGHT FROM THE' JUNGLE. • PONGEY, THE WONDER ANIAIAL. Many strange stories have reached the outside world of the remarkable spid weird-animals to be found in the depths of tli© Amazonian forests and the South American jungles. Gaily plumaged birds, rarely ever seen by the eye of man, reptiles of glittering brilliancy, stunted races of dwarfed people. Ou tlie showground to-day, however, there is an animal flint easily out-does the most weird conceptions of the human mind. Pongey, a. denizen of the Patagonian jungle, of Brazil, arrived l in Australia a few weeks ago, through tlx© agency of the Sydney Zoo authorities, for the present owners, Messrs. D. T. Mukin and H. Howe. Pongey is indeed a wonder animal. Possessing a trunk like an elephant, front legs like a. rhinerooeros,' daw?, like a grizzly bear, hind feet like an ape, and l a ling© frihoiis tail. Pongey’s daily meal comprises lOlbs mince meat, a dozen eggs,, and some milk—truly a wonderful animal. He is accompanied by another stranger, the Armadillo, also fi’om Brazil. Everybody should see this exhibit.*
