HAITI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
'The monthly meeting of the Haiti School committee was held last everting. Present: Messrs E. Beatson (chairman), Quigley, Thompson, Hall, Doddrell, A. Pox (lion, sec.) 'Apologias were received tram Messrs Williamson, Bickford 1 and Pvawshaw. The headmaster-reported that- the roll was 347, the average attendance being 318. The senior boys’ football team line! won the competition lor the season and two seven-ii(-side tournaments at the school sports. Two former Haiti school pupils had been placed first in 3A. boys and 3A. girls’ forms respectively at the list term examinations at. the High School. Two others had gained third and fifth places respectively in 3A-. boys’ form, three girls from the school had succeeded in taking second places in various sections of the recent- competitions. The concert and sale of work had resulted in a net. profit of £6O, the expenses being only £3.—The report was received. A resolution of t lianlfs was passed to the teachers and parents who had worked so hard to make the function such a financial success. A vote'of thanks wins also passed to Mi' R. Dobson for donating a photograph of the football team to each of the players, to the St. David’s Church for the loan of forms, and the Waiknnne Beach Society for use of games. Correspondence, was received from the Borough Council ro closing 33 feet road through school grounds and ,a meeting lo consider this matter will be held at the school on Thursday evening next, 18th. The Education Board wrote stating that Colonel Hunter, director of Dental Hygiene, assured them that another nurse would bo appointed to Gisborne as soon as one whs available. Communication was received through the Board-from Mr J. T. Witty -offering an area of land for purchase as additional school playing ground and it- was decided that the committee had no funds for this purpose and therefore had to deciine the offer. The improvement to schripl grounds comprising bicycle shed, coal shed, npw gates on -Ahived road, grading and gravel, ling front portion have been completed by the contractor, Mr K (Avar (Is, in a very satisfactory manner, and are a decided advantage to the children. Accounts amounting to £37 were passed"for payment. Leave of absence was granted to MV H. T. Doddrell during his visit to England, and the chairman, on behaY F of commit-t-e. expressed the wish that Mr Doddrell would have a pleatsant holiday and safe return to Gisboffl) e.
