NATIVE LAND RATING.
PROSPECT OF SOLUTION OF
PROBLEM
(Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day
' According to Mr. K. S. Williams (Bay of Plenty), there is some prospect of a solution of the problem of rating and collection of rates from native' lands. He congratulated the Minister of Native Affairs in the House on having taken some definite step in this direction by his action last session in setting up a committee to go into the matter. Its report would result in great good. He also' wished to heartily congratulate the member for the Eastern Maori district on the very good work he had done in this connection. (Hear, hear.) Mr Ngata, as a native, had to look at native interests, hut Mr. Williams assured his hearers that the Eastern Maori member had approached the subject with'the view of carefully safeguarding the interests of the whole Dominion. Nqbody had given more time than he to a solution of this vexed question.
