PRIMUS EXPLODES.
A NARROW ESCAPE. A sensation was caused' at Whakatane, states the Press, owing to the explosion of a primus at the residence of Mr. Kelly, resulting in Mr. Kelly sustaining serious injuries to his face. At an early hour Mr. Kelly went to light a primus to prepare his breakfast, and as the lamp did not burn properly be went to empty the kerosene, thinking .that some water must have got in. When in* the act of pouring out tho oil into a jug a terrific explosion occurred. This started, a lire among some kindling wood dm the corner of the room and the. primus itself was soon well ablaze. Neighbors rushed in and' one rang the firebell, but .eventually the fire was subdued by the efforts of Mr. J. Tennant, a couple of rugs and a coat which Mr. Kelly threw,over , the flames being damaged. Mr. Kelly was attended to by Dr. Cronin and is now confined fo lushed.
