A STRONG NAVY.
WHY IT| IS ESSENTIAL
.The need for the work of the Navy League has never been more essential than at the present moment, states tinannual report of the Wellington, branch of the Navy League.
“Personal experience of the Great War has led many people to believe that, oiir fleet is mainly a war machine. That is riot the case. Other States and nations are protected by mountains, by deserts, and bv other natural features. Great. Britain, alone among World Powers, can be easily approached on every side over .the countless paths of the sea. .She re quires, therefore, a strong navy at all limes to Safeguard her water boundaries mid police the feds; arid the need of inculcating this truth is a paramount duty, when tile compulsion of national economy has led-to reduction in the fleet so drastic that the bare limit of safety has now been reached, leaving little or no margin for emergencies.”
