ABANDONED FARMS.
TERMS, OF RESUMPTION. (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON', this day. Avoiding S' -Mr. Masters (Stratford) set tiers wlm take up farms abandoned by the original soldier settlers are being asked by Land Boards to deposit 10 per cent, of the capital value as a condition of resumption. He asked the Minister of Lands if that is tbe general practice, and was assured by Mr. McLeod that it is not the general policy in all eases. In many cases where soldiers’ lands have been abandoned, said the Minister, tbe land has been taken under part two of the Act. in which, ease there had to he public competition to clear up outstanding mortgages. He believed in these cases tbe Lands Department bird required deposits, but (bis was subject to investigation by tbe Land Board, and if other satisfactory proof were forthcoming of tbe ability of tbe settler to successfully farm the area a deposit, was not required.
