LAST NIGHT'S TELECRAMS.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The burglary at the Avondale railway station on the morning of June 15 when a safo was blown open and £SB 12s 4d stolen, was re-told in the Auckland Suprerrie Court to-day, when Esmond Edwin Rodbourne Luttrill, 35 years of age, was charged with breaking, entering and theft, and alternately with having unlawfully received the sum of money mentioned. After nearly four boars’ retirement the jury returned li verdict of guilty of receiving only. Senfence was deferred.
The births registered in Auckland for July totalled 339, constituting a record. In the previous July, the,total was 242, an increase of 67. Foi' the seven months, the total is 1952, against 1877 Inst year. The deaths totalled 158 in July, against 183, making tlie year’s total 931 against 893. There were 128 marriages last month, against 145 in 1923. The total for the seven months is 1180, compared with 1184 in the previous period. The arrivals' at Auckland for the months wore 1840, compared with 946 in the previous July, due to the arrival of the Corinthic and Suffolk with .about 800 immigrants. The departures numbered 1182, compared with 873.
The Customs dues for Auckland for Jnlv totalled £186.802. compared with £158.002 in the previous July, an increase of £28.800. The total for seven months is £1,263,840, compared with £1,227,311 for last year’s period, an increase of £36,537.
WELLINGTON, last night
During tlie past year the Dominion organiser of the Farmers’ Union (Mr. Boston) has enrolled 1300 members and collected £1295. Tlie members enrolled in 1922 totalled 957, and in 1923, 1235.
MASTERTON, last night,
Through fouling a strong current when fording the Wninwnga river, James Fouhv, a carting contractor, of Masterton. had a narrow escape from dentil. Fonliy was. carting metal from the river and attempted to ford to the town side through the usual outlet.'-Three powerful horses wove attached to the dray, hilt the velocity of the current tossed the dray completely over. Fonliy was thrown under, and bad it not been for the tail-board being broken his escape would 'have' been impossible, as Chp dray was sefuvoly anchored. Tlie horses vere drowned.
