OIL EXPERTS.
DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRY
SYDNEY, July 17.—Mr. A. E. Brone, a Fellow of tho American Geographical Society, and tho holder of considerable interests in the operations for the de velopmcrit of the oil industry in Australia and New Zealand, stated ip a recent address at tliei University 1 that a proposal would shortly he put before tho senates of the vai'ions universities of Australia and New Zealand to allow students completing their studies to he trained as oil experts, so that hi the near future a highly-trained staff would he ready to deal with the problems likely to arise. Ho is of the opinion that the £50,000 which the Commonwealth Government proposes to present to the person producing the first 100 gallons of oil' in l Australia in payable quantities, should he expended in proparly mapping out the geographical formations of the Commonwealth. Professor Sir Edgeworth David said he Hoped to see oil discoveries in Ihe Kimberley region of Western Australia, in New Guinea, and possibly is south-eastnrn Queensland. tie added that it was as a result of Mr. Broue’s work that oil had been proved to exist in commercial quantities in New Zealand.
