P.B. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An executive committee meeting of the above was held on Wednesday evening, in the Women's Club Rooms. Present: Mr. E. P. Mountfort (chairman), Mrs. T. IL Garrett, Messrs. J. Harvey, E. C. Calcott, K. F. Nasmith, G. T. Maunder, H. Stubbing*, H. Johnston and W. R. L. Williams.
Correspondence was received from the Royal Horticultural Society, R. G. Crawford, W. E. and R' D. B. Robinson, all of which was dealt with.
A letter was received from the Royal Horticultural Society, London, in reply to a letter sent, asking for a ruling on the correct way the Bronze Banksian Gift medal was to be awarded. This referred to the medal, which was held over until this information came to hand; also to all future Bronze Banksian Gift medals.
Mr. W. R. L. Williams proposed that the Bronze Banksian Gift medal in future be awarded to the exhibitor who gains the most points in the main feature (daffodil, rose, dahlia, fruit, chrysanthemum) of the show to which it has been allotted. —Seconded by Mr. Harvey and carried, Mr. 11. Stubbings voting against the motion. The conditions stated by the Royal Horticultural Society regarding the Bronze Banksian Gift medal are that the same competitor should be barred from winning it oftencr than once in three consecutive years. Mr. G. T. Maunder proposed that the 1923-24 Bronze Banksian Gift medal the Society has in hand should not be awarded for the past year, which was seconded by Mrs. T. H. Garrett. On being put to the meeting, this motion was lost.
The awarding of the 193-3-24 Banksian Gift medal was discussed, and Messrs. Williams, Johnston and Maunder wore asked to retire, as thcj f were interested exhibitors, while the balance of the committee settled who the medal was to 'be awarded to.
Mr. J. Harvey proposed that Mr. Stubbings' opinion that Mr. H. Johnston's dahlias staged at the autumn show were the outstanding feature of 1023-24 shows be adopted as the decision of the committee, and that the Bronze Banksian Gift medal bo awarded to him for 1923-24.—Seconded by Mr. E. P. Mountfort and carried. Mr. J. Harvey proposed that the following bo made a regulation: — "That the Bronze Banksian Gift medal be awarded yearly iji the following rotation: Dahlia, 1923-24; fruit, 1924-2!); chrysanthemum, 1925-2(i; daffodil, 1926-27; rose, 1927-28, to the competitor gaining the most joints in these specified features, providing that should the judge consider that the exhibits of the person gaining most points are not up to the standard expected by the R.H.S., the medal may go to the next feature in rotation, when the same conditions will apply in the following year. The award of the medal will revert to the feature losing it on- account of lack of merit, same conditions applying. If it is impossible for the executive committee to give the medal to a succeeding feature, it shall be returnees to the R.H.S., and will be lost to that feature until it comes around again in rotation.." —This motion Avas seconded by Mr. W. McKinnon and carried.
All present office-bearers arc reminded that they will be considered as nominated unless they shall have expressed to the secretary by May 19 (heir intention to retire.
A general meeting will be hold on the 16th hist, to consider notice of motions given by Messrs. G. T. Maunder and W. McKinnon. The annual general meeting will be held in the Women's Club Rooms, Peel Street, on June 2. Mr. J. Harvey proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman, which terminated the meeting.
