NEW WIRELESS MARVEL.
MARCONI'S SECRET,
LONDON, April 29.—The final effort of the Marconi Wireless Telegraphy Company to modify the Government desire for Post Office control of wireless is based on Sigmor Marconi's inventive genius, oiotahly in relation to a now wireleas beam. The Manchester Guardian states that the beam developments may throw the whole Empire scheme into the melting pot. The Marcioni Company will ask the Government to delay its second Post Office stajbion to allow it to demonstrate its ability to transmit beams over long distances.
'Hitherto the longest bdam has been from Cornwall to the Cape Verde lalandsi (approximately 2500 miles), but the 'Marcdni Cbtmjpany claims that a beam is practicable to Australia. The advantages are secrecy, except along the direct, line heliweein the stations, greater freedom from aitmospherics, and less power required! for transmission. The company paints out that it would be folily for the Government to erect expensive stations which would bo Obsolescent within, a year, owing to beam development. The Government recognises this viewpoint,'but hopes to utilise the Miarcdni invention for the Post Office fifcutiijons. On the other hand, the comjpany hopes to force the Government into a partnership, similar to tha.t between the Commonwealth and Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia.) Ltd.
