At Lebanon (Pennsylvania) disease has made terrible ravages among the members of the Faith Tabernacle, a small religious sect residing here, whose tenets provide a cure for all ailments through prayer. Seven members have died from diphtheria during the.past three weeks. No cognisance was, taken after the first few deaths, but ’ neighbors thereafter sent physicians, who, however, were not permitted to treat the afflicted. One family lost three members. in a few days, but the surviving relatives their prayers. The. authorities were unable, under the law, to force medical attention l, P on th e afflicted, and were compelled! to merely quarantine the hous.e where the death's occurred.
, The sect, moreover, conceals information concerning the presence of disease, disclosures coming only after death.
