OCEAN ISLANDS.

FRENCHMAN’S FANCIFUL IDEA.

(Sydney Sun Cables.) (Received May 6, 11 a.m.) ‘ PARIS, May 5.

De Frasse, an engineer, publishes a remarkable scheme, for trans-Atlantic service of which naval flying experts approve. The scheme provides for the construction of four ferro-concrete islands, costing three millions. Each island would be boat-shaped, of sufficient height to prevent the largest waves washing over, and equipped with Diesel engines, giving a speed of five knots, enabling the island to resist the action of the wind! and tides. Equilibrium and stability would be ensured by ballast.

Each island will contain an enclosed dock, thirty feet deep, a thousand 1 feet, 'long, and! three hundred feet broad upon which seaplanes may berth; also hotels for passengers, as well as repair shops, wireless station, and weather bureau. Powerful beacons would be provided to mark the positions of the islands.
