BURTON ('UP TOURNAMENT. FIRST DAY’S PLAY. The showery weather conditions which prevailed yesterday interfered with the opening day’s play in tlie annual bowling competition for the Burton Cup. Owing to the rain a late start was made, and this necessitated cut tailing t'lie games to 19 heads, which were played under adverse conditions. The games were played on the Gisborne, Club’s green, and apart, from the effect, of the ram, and a consequent, slowness, the turf was in good order. The president of the Gisborne Centre, Air. G. C. Alarms, extended a welcome to the visiting players, including a, number who came from Hastings, Napier, and Wairoa, expressing regret that- the weather conditions had interfered with the play, and hoping that, the competition would Ire a good one nevertheless. Owing to the rain this morning play was not continued, and a meeting of the centre is being held to-dav to decide whether or not the games should be continued on Monday.
