EDUCATION MONOPOLIES.
AN At'UK AM) PROTEST
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A public meeting convened by the Auckland University College Council, was held yestreday afternoon to protest against the serious handicap imposed on the young people of Auckland University' College district- in the matter of securing professional education. Nearly ICO representatives of higher education, leading professionals. Parliamentary and local government-, commerce and industry attended. The presidetil of the College Council (the lion. G. Fuwldz) was in the chair.
After a, comprehensive discussion ol what, was described as the illogical bolstering up of the educational monopolies of the South Island universities, it, was resolved to call upon llie Government and Parliament, to take steps to secure the right- of matriculated: students of llie Auckland engineering school to sit for the examinations prescribed by their own University, and, furthermore, to urge the Government to make provision at Auckland for the. training of dentists oil lines enabling them to practise their profession in New Zealand.
