William Wardell, an engineer, wa remanded on a charge .of wilful lmmle of Mrs. Heaney.
After leaving a music teacher's house at Uliichester early on-. Monday evening Vera. Hoad, aged twelve, ( mysteriously disappeared. She was discovered dead iimler a hedge at West Sussex mental hospital, bait' a'mile from home. There wen* no signs of a struggle, but strangulation marks on tho throat. Davina Brown, a. mill girl at Dundee, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment* for throwing vitriol on Thomas Groinbie, married, whose sight was destroyed. Accused pleaded revenge, alleging that Crombin posed as a single man and refused to -make provision for her infant. The Judge declared the crime was out of all proportion to the wrong she had suffered. Edith Bassett was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for throwing vitriol over Thompson, a London omnibus inspector, who lost the: sight of an oye. (Received March 1, 10.15 a.m.)
