VISITING ATHLETICS.

COMPLIMENTARY' DINNER. A complimentary dinner in honor of the visiting athletes was hold in the British Empire Hotel on Saturduy evening, when the visitors were the guests of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic iuid Harrier (Hub. The club's chairman, Mr. H. E. Forster. presided over a large and representative gathering, In proposing the tons) <>l " J.he Visitors," Mr. Forster referred to the success of the sports, which had. however, been marred by I lie unfortunate weather conditions. The performances given by the visiting athletes were of a very high order, but lie felt that the Gisborne boys had also done themselves credit. The entries and the keen contests in the cycling events had beeit one of the features o.f the meeting. Messrs. (r. Davidson. Griffin. 'Pauley, Morris. Kelly, and the manager of the team, Mr. Coghlin, responded to the toast, thanking the Gisborne Club for the treatment .that had been extended to them. An assurance was given that they would visit the next championship meeting. The cup for the most points gained in the cycling events was presented by Mr. A. S. Parker, vice-president, to E. Morris, of Hamilton. In proposing the toast of "The Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club," Air. G. Davidson declared that the meeting was one of the best amateur gatherings in the Dominion. Congratulations were extended to the officials, who were also thanked for their kindness to the visitors. With the toast were coupled the names of Messrs. A. AV. Mason and 0. Brown. The singing of the National Anthem brought the gathering to a close. Yestorday the visiting athletes wcro taken for a motor-car ride round the Poverty Bay flats by Messrs. H. F. Forster/J. O.Joncs, and A. Ingram.
