Or. H. H. DeCosta, who has been on n motoring tour to Auckland, via the Bay of Plenty, returned home to-day, bavins travelled via Taupo and Napier.
The suggestion that the Gisborne Harbor Board should plant,shelter trees at the reserve at Sponge Bay was made by Mr. T. Corson, who stated that it was a (favorite picnic ■ place. . . The area was •destitute 'of •shad*'.- The'' chairman, -.M.r. Smith, moved that the engineer be instructed to inspect the property and report to the Board as to the suitability tor planting trees there. The motion was curried.
Unfortunately wet weather set in early at Waerenga-o-kuri on Saturday, and completely upset the arrangements for the annual sports gathering. The morning gave promise of a splendid day, but heavy rain set in at noon. There was a good gathering and a start was made with the programme, but the officials were; soon wet to the skin and it was deemed advisable to postpone the gathering to an early date, when a full programme will be submitted. Entrance to the grounds will be free. The rain continued heavily for a couple of hours. The annual dance was held in Mr. Gillinghnm's wool-shed in the evening,, and proved a great success, there being a large attendance.
The Gisborne Harbor Board to-day considered the following notice of motion by Member Tombleson: "That clause 4 of the by-laws, regulating the proceedings of the Board, be amended at the fifth line, after the words 'adjourn such meeting to,' by adding the words, 'A litter hour on the same day, or'; and, further, that clause 8 under the same heading, referring to notice of special meetings, be amended to bring it into conformity with clause 45 of the Harbors Act, by inserting the words 'four clear days' in place of 'seven clear days.' " In speaking to the motion, Mr. Tombleson apologised for the absence of country members from the meeaing last week on account of the Ram Fair. He regretted having kept members here doing nothing.— The motion was carried.
