Preparations are .being made everywhere to observe a hartal on Monday, expressing public against the Kenya decision. Stock Exchanges, merchants. Sanaranpnr and Gonda, in the United Provinces. A large number of casualties, with the destruction of property, have bten reported. Hindus’ shops were looted at both places. The police were . compelled to fire to restore order. Minor fracas arc reported at Ah Medabad, Calcutta, Amritsari and Nellore, mainly between the Shias and. Sunnis sections of. Islam.
At Sanaranpur a riot ota most serious // character was caused by' tho insistence j.: of Mohemmedans to. lop the branches of a sacred troo at the Hindu temple, overhanging the street, with a view that tho carrying of processional flags should not be interrupted. The Hindus resisted, whereon the temple was attacked and shops looted. A free fight ensued. Tension is high, but the situation is in hand.
