BIRD-CATCHING TREE.
(To the Editor of tne Herald.) Sir,. —I rend with deep sorrow vour account of the "bird-catching tree.*' in certain school grounds. J think it is small credit to the school that such a thine is Billowed." Surely there is enough cruelty to birds andlanimais committed by adults, without, its bcine; part of a child's school-' training. The fact apparently <jf tho poor little birds being left for days, to die of thirst and starvation, seems to me abominable cruelty, and quite tiie last thins* that a, tender hearted little child should be allowed to consider right and proper., Are our New .Zealand; schools to have no hi-rli ideals to live up to, and are our children when away from home;, to learn things, that no right thinking parent could approve of?—I am, etc., A MF'?K WOMAN.
