C. F. Donnelly, a bankrupt taxi driver, was charged with failure to keep proper books lor three years. The Crown Prosecutor contended that this was done to hide transactions from his creditors. Defendant had been throwing money away, and on one occasion be spent £4O going to Auckland to attend a, golden wedding. For the defence counsel said that his client suffered from an excess of optimism, and had bad luck in investments.
The. S.M. said this had nothing to do with the 1 charge, and inflicted a sentence of four months' hard labor.
