ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES.

At Ihe Magistrate's Court Granville Hunt, formerly secretary of the Rotorui> Racing and Bowline Clubs, was charged with obtaining £l2O from Jesse B. Tanner by means of false pretences, on May 31. The evidence alleged that lie. got' the monev by saying he wanted it as a loan to the Rotorua Auctioneering Co., but bo used it to make up a deficiency in the Racing Club accounts. He was "also charged with stealing £l6 from the fund of which he is treasurer for the relief of the family of the late Mr. Dodson, an employee of a picture company. Accused pleaded not guilty to both charges, and was committed for trial at the Supreme* Court at Hamilton on September 4. Further charges arc pending. Bail was allowed .in £IOOO, or two sureties of £SOO each.
