A STATE ORGANISATION

(Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day

The first report of the Stores Purchase Board was presented to the Rouse yesterday. It claims that. Hie, concentration of busines has led to considerable savings. 'The new system came into practical operation about the end of July. 1922. Over six thousand requisitions' have been dealt with by the supplies and tenders committees during the eight, months ended March, 1923. Over two hundred contracts have been arranged for supplies of clothing, bread, meat milk e 1... for the virions institutions under the direct control of (ho (invernmenl Departments. It is recognised, however, that the work of tho Board is in reality only beginning. The largest savings can and will be effected by the standardisation! of stores which are used by all Departments. This is now receiving earnest attention. It is hoped that ere long a number of stores commonly •used by a number of, or all Departments, will have been standardised and contracts made for supplies which will result in the saving of many thousands of pounds to the Government. The* Board's policy is defined as one of satrvice to all Departments, and with a view to effecting the mora economical buving. the experience of the buying officers and organisation ot the three purchasing departments, acting in conjunction, will he made freely available to all requisitioning departments.
