IMPUDENT THIEVES.

(per Press Association.! , AUCKLAND, last night.

At the; Police Court,. John Buckley, aged 20; pleaded guilty to, and was committed for sentence for, the theft of a Chevr6let car, valued at £2BO, the property of Edwin Sayes, and with breaking and entering a dwelling and stealing gooda to the value of £79. On charges of stealing two bicycles he was remanded for sentence till dealt with by the Supreme Court on the other two • barges.- In a statement to the police, accused said a companion named Pittam, "whom he met at the Borstal institution, suggested that they should pull off "a big job," and steal a launch, but the accused favored a motor. They tried several private garages at Remuera without avail. ' The two made unsuccessful attempt to force the doors of two shops on the night of July 2. Buckley and Sayes' car. was in the street, and they took it, hiding it in the Domain, the name and number-plate being removed and another number substituted. After riding round the city, Buckley alleged that they went to see if money could be stolen from the father of Pittam. However, Pittam was in, so Pittam could not steal money from his father's place as he intended. While Pittam was in the house, Buckley got the car and drove all night and most of the next morning until he found himself stuck in the mud at Rangiriri, when he decided to return. He entered a house at Kohimarama and stole household articles, and subsequently hid the car in the Domain, where it was found. The damage is assessed at £25. Rignold Pittam/ mentioned above, was committed for sentence for attempting to break and enter the shop of James Trubulovich, the theft of high tension wire, and a knife valued at 95, ; and the theft of four machinists' chisels.
