COOK HOSPITAL BOARD. NOTICE. TO THOSE PERSONS WHO CONTRIBUTED TO TfiE FUNDS FOR PROrOiSED "MEMORIAL WARD." )0 my previous Chairmanship of the Hospital Hoard, I was instrumental in collecting a substantial sum of money, to be devoted to the erection of a special "Consumption Ward" as a Memorial Ward to Fallen Soldiers from this District. This sum has been on deposit at til© Bank of New Zealand, together with the subsidy subscribed by Government, and now amounts to about £SOOO. As the need for a special "Consumptive Ward" is not acute, and may possibly became unnecessary owing to other .-ictioii on the part of the Health Department, I am of the opinion that this amount can be put to equally good use in n rather different direction. The insistent need for a. new institution for the accommodation of indigent Old People, of both sexes, is becoming more and more pressing, and as the present institution in Roebuck Road is incapable, of enlargement, and is becoming very dilapidated in condition,' I have thought that this money could pe beneficially devoted to this undertaking. An admirable site, front all points of view, exists at the new Hospital Farm at Mangapnpn. where surrounding conditions would be incomparably better than such ns now obtain at the Roebuck Road site, and there are other sources of income to the Board, which make it reasonable to assert that in this way a new and commodious .'Hid suitable Home-can be built without further dipping into Ratepayers' pockets:. Further,, would not such an institution be an admirable memorial for tlfe object for which this money was subscribed in the first instance? (Signed) W. G. SHERRATT,
