At a • mooting of delegates representing the North, Mid, and South Canterbury Farmers’ Unions, tho A. and, P. Associations, and tho Shccpowiiers’ Unions, it was decided to recommend tho retention of the present personnel of the Meat Producers’ Board. It was also agreed to support the candidature of Messrs. D. W. Mulholland, J. Trotter, D. W. Westenra, H. D. Acland, and R. Morten for tho Meat Board Electoral Committee. Delegates from the principal centres in Canterbury discussed tho question of wheat growing and tho control of prices. It was generally agreed that the acreago in wheat was fully 50 per cent, below that of last season, and, unless prices were made remunerative enough to encourago spring sowing, the Dominion would bo faced with a shortage of wheat. The cost of production was stated to be from 4s fid to 5s per bushel, all charges having gone up fully 100 per cent. It was decided that tho price bo fixed at fis f.o.b. It was also agreed to approach the Government with a view of assistance to erect storage sheds, while an effort is to be made to obtain a reduction in' handling charges. It was further decided to ask the Government ro place an embargo on Australian potatoes till the local price has reached £lO per ton. WELLINGTON, last night.
