NOXIOUS WEEDS.
NEW LEGISLATION PROPOSED. (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Souio interesting alterations in the law regarding noxious weeds are con-1 tained in a Bill amending the Noxious : \Veeds Act, .1908, which is in ehargp of Mr. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture. Hitherto the term "clearing" has meant getting rid of weeds so that iliey. will not flower, but it is proposed to extend the meaning to mean getting lid of the weed, "so as to prevent the s2)read thereof or otherwise." Another important proposal is that the local authority may at any time declare "that any plant, except black* berry, described in the 1908 Act as a noxious weed, is not a. noxious weed in its district. While - small patches of blackberry tire not affected by the proposals, other areas of blackberry j must be cleared to the extent demand-, ed by the inspector, and if barberry, sweetbriar, gorse, broom, or hakea are i growing in districts whore they are considered noxious weeds, they must ■ be cleared, unless they are _ small j patches, or from part of a hedge,! Such hedges have to be cut or trimmed every year, although the operation may bo suspended subject to the approval of tiio inspector, or if shelter is likely i to be affected. I
