INSTRUCTING DR, GIBB
“I can say honestly that I believe in J fie Bible from cover to cover,” remarked tho Prime Minister, when replying to a deputation which waited upon him asking that Bible lessons should bo given in the State schools. “Tho Bible contains the grandest poetry over written. From the point of view of ancient history I think it is invaluable.” Mr. Massey said ho did not forget that the Bible was written in Eastern style and subject to different interpretations. “I don’t allow anybody to interpret, the Bible for me,” ho added amidst laughter, “because I believe I am able to interpret it/ myself.” Tho Rev. Dr. J. Gibb: “You might he the better of a little instruction all the same.” (Laughter.) Mr. Massey: “Well, I should like to have a Bible class with myself at teacher and Dr. Gibb as'a pupil. (Laughter.) Dr. Gibb: Before a week was out Dr. Gibb would he teaching Mr. Massey. Mr. Massey : This is not a thing to boast about, hut I believe I understand tho Bible just as well as Dr. Gibb, and, perhaps, a. little better, (Laughter.) Dr. Gibb: Mr. Massey is not a Scotchman, hilt an Irishman, and the Irish also have a good conceit of themselves. 1 Mr. Massey: Many Irish arc of Scotch, descent, and Tam one of them. After they have lived in Ireland for two or tin •ee hundred, years, the Irishmen can improve, the Scotchmen. (Laughter.)
