Samples of marble for the column of tho soldiers’ memorial at Timaru are being received from various parts of Now Zealand, as well ns from Australia and Italy, twenty samples in all having been received to date. When all the samples are to hand tho memorial committee will select the ono which they like best. Tho column will bo tho largest of its kind in Australasia, and tho marble cap, which will bo GO foot from the ground, with weigh five tons and will take six months to carve.
