ILLEGAL STRIKE.
UNION FINED £2OO, AND TWELVE MINERS £lO EACH. (I'Ci- Press Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. Contingent on the recent strike of Ilikuraugi coal miners, the Inspector of Awards, Mr Joseph llolows, Auckland, took proceedings in the Magistrates Court at Whangarei against the Hiknrangi Coal Miners’ Union to recover £2OO as a penalty for breach of the Arbitration Act, on tho grounds of abetting unlawful strikes, and aiding the continuance thereof; also against twelve employees at Foote and Doel’s mine, where the dispute originated, including tho president of the union, as parties to an unlawful strike. After hearing lengthy evidence tho Magistrate, Mr Hewitt, imposed tho maximum fine of £2OO on tho union, and £lO each on the defendant miners.
