AMATEUR COMPETITIONS.
The Amateur Competitions to be held under the direction of Mr. W. A. Low at the Opera House next Saturday and Monday should afford a fine opportunity toj those desirous of improving in the art of dancing, singing, and elocution. Mr. Low has had a long and varied experience in these class of entertainments, with the result that many of the artists who have passed through his hands have gone to their local competitions fully qualified and competent so as to give a finished, performance in their events. Special features of these competitions have been the events for children, and in other towns large entries were received, with more than satisfactory results. There is every.reason to believe these competitions in Gisborne will be a complete success, as the tallent already nominated includes some well known and capable artists, and a splendid entertainment is anticipated. Intending competitors are reminded that the entries close on Friday next at the Opera House at 5 p.m. The box plan for patrons wishing to reserve seats at a nominal price is now on view at Muir's.
