BY-LAW CASES.
By-law cases comprised most of the business in the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M. George M. Twigley, charged with cycling without a light, admitted the offence, stating that his carbide supply had run out. Ho was fined 20s, with costs 7s. Allan William Broadhurst admitted cycling without, a light, and also cycling on the footpath. Senior-Sergeant Fitzpatrick explained that the defendant had ridden his bicycle on the footpath at 2 a.m. in Wainui road, without a light. An alarm of fire had been given, and there were a number ■ of people about. He was fined 20s, with costs 7s on each charge. Hubert F. Fbrster, for whom Mr. Burnard appeared, was fined 20s, with costs 7s, for driving a motor car without a tail light. For a similar charge Fred. Leslie Fletcher did not appear, and was fined 20s, with costs 7s.
Joseph Newton, who admitted a similar charge, was fined 20s, with costs 7s.
Thomas Todd, who was likewise charged, was represented by Mr. J. Blair, who pleaded not guilty, though ho admitted the facts. Mr. Blair explained that the electric bulb had failed, and when it was discovered defendant drove to a garage and had it fixed. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s. , Tho Borough Inspector proceeded against Oswald Hatherel on a charge of driving a motor car without a tail light. Mr R. B. Hill appeared for defendant, who pleaded not guilty. Mr. Hill explained that the wire had fused or something had gone wrong, and tho lights had gone out in that way. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay cossts 17s 6d.
