(Per press Association.)
AUCKLAND, last night. •Sir Thomas Clement, principal of the firm of 4- Clement and Eon, butter merchants, of London, to-night expressed tho opinion that New Zealand is destined to become tho dairy farm of the Empire, as tho fertile soil and climatic conditions gave the Dominion an advantage over all competitors in the cost of production. The urgent necessity of proper provision being made for further expansion was emphasised. Sir Thomas said he was greatlV surprised thatJy what was really a national industry the Government was cot spending more on research work. The present functions of the dairy division in respect to grading and quality repoils were excellent, but its other autivitir.s compared wit! those of other competing countries were infinitesimal. New Zealand would have to become active in that direction to maintain her position.
