HUGE BIRTHDAY CAKE.
LONDON, March 11. —A huge birthday cake, weighing 119 pounds-—one pound for each year of the society’s existence—was cut at the Young People’s Birthday Party of the British and Foreign Bible Society held at the Guildhall.* The Lord Mayor, who presided, said that the society belonged to the City of London, in that it was born at a, public meeting held in the City in 1804. For the last thirty-two years the birthday of the society had been celebrated by young people in the Guildhall. Since its inception the society had printed the Bible, or portions of the Scriptures, in 550 different languages and dialects, spoken by three-quarters of the human race. Last year eight and a. half million copies of the Scriptures were sent out, and every day of I be year a ton weight of Bibles, was dispatched from the Bible House jr, Lopdon.
