SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE.

STRATEGIC KEY TO PACIFIC

lElec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.; CAustralian and N.Z cable Association.i LONDON, May 3. The Morning Post, in an editorial, says the decision of the Government to develop the naval base at Singapore, which for ns is the strategic key to the Pacific, is heartily to be applauded. The base is not a challenge or a threat to any Power. It is the mere recognition of our great interests in the East —interests inseparable from our duties to Australia and New Zealand. As for the argument that the base is the flouting of the League, of Nations it would be well to consider what the League of Nations would be worth if the naval strength of its prominent member were reduced to nullity.
