BLASTING FATALITY.
UAWA QUARRY FOREMAN
KILLED,
As a result of an accident which occurred at the Uawa County Council’s stone quarry this morning; Johw Fowler, quarry foreman, w r as injured so severely that he died an hour later. Mr. Fowler was engaged in blasting operations, and had laid a series o£ “shots,” and sent aw*ay the men engaged in helping him, while he applied the light to the time-fuse. -• The men heard the shots, and returned to tho quarry, where Mr' Fowler was found lying unconscious, with a wound on his head. He was. close to wliero the shots had been fired, and it is assumed that after lighting the last one, ho' had not had time to escape to a safe distance.
Mr. J. P. Guthrie, county engineer, was acquainted with the Circumstances and immediately conveyed a doctor to the scene 'of the accident. ' Nothing could bo done for •'the’ unfortunate man, who died within an hour, without having regained consciousness. The late Mr. Fowler was a middleaged man, single, and was bom., in Ireland. He had been working for the county as quarry foreman for four years, and was a careful and efficient man. So far as is known, he had no relatives in the Dominion.
