EAST COAST RAILWAY.
TUT HI A SECTION BEING PUSHED
If is the intention of thei Public Works Department, now that the Napier-E.sk-dalo section of the East Coast railway is nearing completion, to concentrate on the Tutira. section of the railway. The formation work on the Tutira section is practically completed l for four miles beyond' Kskdnle, arid' another three miles are in hand' (states the Telegraph). It will be necessary to construct four tunnels in the Esk Vajley, totalling in length about chains and l on the first of those, some 18 miles from Napier, a start has already been made. A start lias also been made on tho Mangnkopipiko bridge, about one mile beyond Eskdale.
The piles for the: Wallace’s Crossing bridge has been completed’ and) the driving of these will proceed as soon as Ihe work on tho Mangnkopipiko bridge is completed. There are about 100 men employed- on tho Tutira section, while another 67 or 70 arei finishing off tlw Eskdale section. When tlie latter work is completed) the majority ot the men will be transferred to the second portion of the railway. A proposed- time-table for passenger traffic on tho section lias been drawn up.
