RELIGIOUS BLUFF.
ITo the Editor of the Herald .1 Sir,—May,‘l claim a little of your space to express my opinion, and I think the opinion of most people in Gisborne concerning that nice religiousi gentleman, Dr. and) his methods. I think anyone who has heard Dr. Oliver will have.'.-been surprised, to, say the, Joast, at the language used! by him. He has stated several times that this isi a free country. Quito so; therefore I .think anyone is* at-.liberty to leave the building daring his meeting if they feel inclined! without being called tire insulting names that Dr. Oliver called! them last Sunday afternoon. He is like all Yanks, top surface and bluff, and last night revealed! himself in his true colors. He should! be in the priza -ring. . Some one lias said! there, is a fool born .'every' minute, and! one is inclined to believe it when one sees the! way New Zealanders are allowing themselves to be d'oped by these Americans. This is the second one we have had here within six months trying! to reform us. From Amercia of all places in the world. -It- seems a pity that Dr. Oliver with his wonderful powers, and so many .thousand, or is iff, milTidri; converts to hig, credit, should be wasting his time) over here when he coij'id bei doing so much in his own country. Why did.ho not st6p in Los Angeles ryher© h<S came from ? I am sure he 'would' find several there .jrho want converting wars© than Wd do. Ig it because they aro wise to his bluff or is the almighty dollar more easy to obtain over hero;? , ; T 'am quite sure we can get along alright Without. Dr. Oliver and his kind 1 . Our'own ministers are quit© capable of preaching its tho Gospel in a proper manner and they don't require to boost! themselves up in tho-way of a, Vaudeville'show. In conclusion, let me say. I am'-wot against tho Bible, 1 but do let us haW'it preached! in a proper Christianlike .way. -The sooner Dr. Oliver goes back tto some of -his,' ‘‘big Amurican cities” and reforms them the better:— I am, etc., •- ' PIGISLANDER.
