LARGE GATHERING AND KEEN ••• CONTESTS. There was a great assemblage at Tatapouri yesterday for tho annual, sports meeting, visitors having been attracted from far and) near. Many people went out to the popular seaside resort for tho day’s outing. The weather was .. . fine until late in the afternoon, and' the sports meeting was a.great success. The - programme of events was well varied, the horse events in particular, being, of special interest, and keenly contested. .. . The programme included many - novelty. i events and-competitions, as well as races . 1. for children. Mr. Standring’s jazz band , ‘ supplied the music, while at, intervals. Mr. Evan Cameron gave some contribu- . tions, with customary highland vigor, upon the national instrument..of Scot- ■ land. There were several valuable cups for , competition. Mr. H. B. Williams’ fine cup for the open leaping match was won by Mr. J. Harding's Fagot, while Mr. .... J. Andrews with Rainbow annexed! Mr. . F. Hall’s valuable cup for the Hunters’ Jump. These cups have been won right. It. Gillman secured most points ", in the horse events, and thereby holds . for 12 months’ Mr. Mazengarb’s cup ... donated for that purpose. The organisation of the meeting was ■excellent, and reflects the greatest of credit upon Messrs G. Gillett and 1 J. , Garson, and) upon Messrs H. and! L. Cato, H. Bright, J. McGrather and . .
