A most interesting trip on H.M.S. Laburnum from Lyttelton to Oamaru was 'made by a party"t>£ Sumner Soa Scouts. A great deal of information concerning the machinery and fighting equipment of the sloop was obtained by the boys, who were well treated by Commander Shqrston and his officers and crew. A careful study was made of the methods used in navigating the vessel night and by day, and also the meteorological instruments.
