NEED FOR ECONOMY - . (per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Strong criticism was roccntly offered of the AVcllington municipal finances, one cx-Mayor contending that tho city was sonic £30,000 to tho bad, if not more, and that general extravagance was shown in the expenditure. The Mayor, on tho other hand, asserts that the financial position is quite sound, and that the overdraft this yoar would bo much below tho amount of revenue outstanding. After cutting down the estimates, it was found that they were still £OOOO above the revenue, but, the Mayor says, a strong effort will bo made to overcoino this, and most'of it will bo saved.
