THE STOCK MARKETS.

CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At the Addington market fat lambs and pigs increased in values, while fat sheep values were maintained. Prices for fat cattle, however, showed a reduction.

Store sheep : The yarding was largo one, drafts being forward from Nelson, Marlborough, and the West Coast. An exceptionally keen demand was made for lambs, which realised high prices. Ewes also were in demand. Forward 4, 6, and 8-tooth wethers made 28s 6d to 29» 7d, ordinary 26s to 28s, forward 2tooth wethers 29s 2d to 31s, ordinary 26s 6d to 28s, good rapo lambs 23s 6d to 25s Id, ordinary 21s 6d to 23s 3d, small and inferior 15s 6d to 21a, 4,6, and 8-tooth ewes 30s 6d to 36s 3d, 6tootli three-quarter bred ewes 375, 2tooth crossbred owes 28s 6d to 33s 6d, failing mouthed ewes 20s to 27s 6d, low conditioned failing mouthed ewes 17s 3d to 19s 6d, aged ewes 12s 6d to 17s. Fat lambs: 'Hie yarding was 4066, compared with 4640 last week. Freezing buyers got the majority of the yarding at prices which were from Is to Is 6d per head better than the previous market. On the average freezing works buyers paid from lOjd to lOJjd a lb. Graziers competed for light lambs, but generally found the prices too high for them. Extra prime lambs realised 33s 6d to 38s lOd, prime 300 to 335, medium 28s to 295, light and unfinished 24s 9d to 27s 6d.

Fat sheep: The yarding was again small. The sale opened briskly, prices being all round atlout on a par with last week, wethers being perhaps slightly better and ewes slightly easier. Wether mutton made from 6Jd to 6Jd per lb., and ewo from 5Jd to 6Jd. Extra prime wethers realised 37s to 40s, a few special 43s 9d, prime 34s to 36s 6d, medium 28s 6d to 33s 6d, light 25s Id to 275, extra prime ewes 30s 6d to 35s lOd, prime 28s 6d to 30s, medium 25s to 28s, light 23s to 24s 9d, aged 17s 9d to 22s fid. Fat cattle: The yarding was a large one. The hot spell of weather had an adverse effect on the sale, particularly with regard to heavier stuff, and prices dropped all round 20a per head. Wei! finished beef made from 27s 6d to 30s per 1001 b, medium 24s 6d to 275, unfinished 21s to 23s 6d, old cow beef to ?os. Extra prime steers realised £l4 5» to £l6. prime £lO 17s to £l3 15s, medium £8 15s to £lO 10s,. light and unfinished £4 15s to £B, prime heifers £6 15s to £7 17s 6d, ordinary £4 10s to £fi, prime cows £6 to £7 17s 6d, ordinary £4 to £5 15s.

Vealers : Last week’s values were fully maintained. Good runners made up to £4 12s 6d, ordinary vealer 3 £2 17s fid to £4, small calves 8s upwards. Store cattle : There was a large yarding and keen competition. Values improved. Four-year-old steers realised £6 10s to £7, 3-year £5 15s to £6 16s, 2-year £3 10s to £4 ss. yearling £1 5s to £1 12s 6d, 2-year-old heifers £4 5s to £4 15s, yearling £2 15s to £2 17s 6d, good cows £2 2s 6d to £2 12s 6d, medium cows £1 to £1 10s. Dairy cattle: Values were maintained. Extra good second, third, and fourth calvers springing sold up to £ll 10s, good second, third, and fourth calvers £8 to £9, medium second, third, and fourth calvers £5 10s to £7 10s, springing heifqrs £4 to £B. Fat pigs : A good demand resulted in improved prices. Choppers made £1 10s to £3, light baconers £3 7s 6d to £3 18s, heavy £4 to £4 8s 6d, average price per lb. 6d to 6jd, light porkers £2 5s to £2 12s, heavy £2 15s to £3 — average price per lb. 7d to Bjd. Store pigs: These sold better in sympathy with price of bacon pigs. Well grown pigs rose from 5s to 6s. Large stores realised 48s, medium 35s to 40s, small 28» to 345, extra good weaners 225, ordinary weaners 14s 6d to 18s. AUCKLAND, last night. There was a very heavy yarding of beef at the Westfield yards. Bidding was erratic, but there was on the whole practically no change in prices. Extra choice ox sold to 26s per 1001 b., choice and prime 23s to 25e; plain beef 21s to 22s 6d; choice and prime young heifer •and cow beef 19s to 225, others 15s to 18s.

A medium yarding of sheep sold under spirited competition, the last of the sale being easily the best. There was a considerable rise. Extra heavy prime wethers realised £1 19s. heavy prime wethers £1 15s 6d, medium prime £1 12s to £1 14s, light and unfinished £1 8s to £1 11s, heavy prime ewes £1 9s, good fat ewes £1 6s to £1 8s 6d, unfinished ewes 19s to £1 s^. An average yarding of lambs sold readily. Heavy prime lambs realised £1 10s, medium £1 6s to £1 9s, light fat £1 3s to £1 ss, rape lambs 17s to £1 Is, poor lambs 11s to 16a. A fair yarding of calves sold readily at late rates. Runners realised £2 5s to £4, heavy vealers £2 to £3 ss, light vealers 25a to £2 7s 6d. A good yarding of pigs sold readily under steady competition with a change in values. Choppers realised up to £3, heavy baconers to £3 10s, porkers £1 12s to £3.
